James Lundberg, studio founder and renowned contemporary glass artist, designed the Worldsphere in 1989. It remains among the studio's most popular works. Using specially formulated powdered glass pioneered by Lundberg, artists create a multi-colored "drawing" - recreating the continents including varied terrain, snowfall and clouds. Iridescent glass and decorative techniques result in a crackled luminescent finish that creates a play of color across the surface of the sphere reminiscent of butterfly wings. (Worldspheres are also available without a luminescent finish). The entire work is encased in a layer of crystal clear. Signed and dated "Lundberg Studios," it includes an attractive dimpled acrylic stand, sized to fit. A Lundberg Worldsphere is destined to become a family heirloom.
