These are very rare shipwreck marbles from the famed "Marble Wreck" which burned and sank off the Southern Shore of Long Island circa 1870-1890. The ship carried a cargo of German-made dolls, beer steins and hand-made marbles for the American market. I purchased these marbles during a 10 year period from 1999-2009 from the diver who discovered the wreck. The wreck is documented in "Wreck Valley III - a record of shipwrecks off Long Island, New York & New Jersey" by Capt. Dan Berg, p. 105. The marbles were badly eroded from over a century of exposure to sand and surf and their cores could not be seen as-found. We had them professionally polished Mint to reveal their beauty and hand-made craftsmanship.
These are the very last of my personal stash of high-end and super rare shipwreck marbles. They are not
illustrated here - what you see are pictures of the marbles I have sold
previously. They appear very similar to the untrained eye but these
have never been offered for sale and are among my prized posessions.
Each example exhibits unusually large (3/4"+) or small (<1/2") size,
very, very rare types (End-of-Day Clouds, Onionskins with Mica, etc.) or
outstanding construction (lobed cores, tri-levels, etc.) - This is the
cream of the crop from a 10 year haul! The very highest quality and
balance of design is found in this group - you can be assured you are
buying a very rarely seen marble! These make unique gifts for the serious collector - you will be happy with your marble or we will buy it back! (We can't guarantee we can send you a replacement - we have less than 2 dozen and when they are gone there will be no more!)
Own a piece of history! Each includes a signed and dated Certificate of Authenticity printed on 100% cotton paper with watermark and a raised LandOfMarbles.com gold seal bearing our logo attesting to their provenance - this is a LandOfMarbles.com exclusive!!
You are buying one marble! Marbles are sold individually and randomly.
What an amazing piece of history! Easily the most prized marble in my collection! These hand made Germans are even more amazing than I expected!
