  1. Do you play marbles?

Just wondering, if you are a marble player, can you tell us where you are from? I'm asking everyone reading this message :)

  2. Lightbulb Rules for "Poison" by Luke Myers, 9 years-old

My friends and I play a type of "Poison" game during recess and afterschool. Actually, about 40 of us play in different areas of our yard. I looked up a game called "poison" online, but our game is different. # of players: 2 or more (alone or in teams) playing field: a dirt area...

  3. Real kids! How many marbles would go in the ring?

Thinking about the 13 marbles in the circle in the tournament rules for ringer, it suddenly seems unlikely that real kids playing in the vacant lot would use 13 marbles. Wouldn't they all have put in an equal number? Better to end up with a tie, right?, than to make kids decide who was...

  4. I have lots of "junk marbles" - donation time?

I don't know many "marble collectors" well, but the few I've met have one thing in common with me: we all have boxes of "junk" marbles that are either not collectible, or not worth keeping (duplicates, bad shape, etc). Looking for ideas and other participants! -As a community, could we donate...

  7. Good Friday at Tinsley Green

Good Friday is coming up. That means marbles at Tinsley Green. I just got a great book written by Sam McCarthy-Fox about the games, Good Friday Marbles: Tinsley Green and More. (Thank you Sam!) I also heard from Debra Stanley-Lapic - National Marbles Champ 1973 and proud mom of Whitney (NMC...

  8. Bad news / Good news

Kansas City's largest ever marble tournament record of 677 players fell after only 8 months. Their reign ran from August to May. The record is now held by an elementary school in Oregon. Over 750 players. Possibly a sign of increasing interest in the game?

  9. Unhappy Question Marbles: Will we ever play again?

I live in Tulsa, Oklahoma: part of the "Heartland." As cities go, it is small and many people are quite traditional in most aspects of life. But, just like the rest of the country, children and adults both would prefer to watch a movie, or play on the Wii versus scattering a few tiny spheres on the...

  11. Size of Shooters

Hey my first post here. I wanted to get some feedback on the size of shooters that come with most of the nets from mega marbles. They are all 1", but from what I have read the tournament size for a shooter is 3/4 or less. Is a larger marble easier to shoot with and what do most people shoot...

  12. Question Boulders: how were they used traditionally?

I collect all kinds of marbles, of all kinds of sizes, but my favorite are the boulders. At least, I think they are boulders. My favorite is one made from the mineral sodalite, it is iridescent and about 1 3/4 inch in diameter. Somonetold me that marbles of this size are called "boulders", I have...

  13. Playing marbles

I made a 3+1/2' round marble playing matt out of leftover carpet which I marked with two (12"&18") concentric center rings like a doughnut, and brought it to an afternoon family barbeque along with several bags of marbles. I called it Poison Doughnut, the rules were fairly simple but did require...

  15. Question Childhood memory of repairing my agates

Sixty-five years old, attempting to explain the game of marbles to my grandkids. As a kid in WV, I was quite a hustler in a 5 or 6 foot dirt ring, but was never able to win the city tournaments playing on a hard wooden surface in the '50s. My reason for registering is to ask a question that may...
