General marble-related chat.
Bored in jury duty so I thought I'd start a thread about sorting marbles - I've done it enough!
The first thing I do when I have a big lot of marbles to go through is separate them into 4 groups: clearies, Opaques, cat's-eyes (that's the correct spelling as per Peterson & castle's guide) and...
I've been asked about my Rainbo collection and decided to take some pictures of the main collection. I'm sure this isn't the most comprehensive grouping of Rainbos, but I've only been seriously collecting them for a bit more than a year. Comments are welcome.
Just wondering how many other collectors are trying to put together Mega Marble type sets. It's not an easy thing to do, but they are relatively cheap. They can be found at just about any marble show if you comb through the cheap stuff. Yea they are "modern" (the horror!) but they are as fun to...
A few more in my mailbox over the last couple of days.
A transparent based Alley Coral. Thought I was going to have a fight over this one, but ended up getting it at a very reasonable price.
And a few interesting Rainbos. Well, at least two of them are...
Did Akro make a red based auger or snake ?
Okay, I'm new to marble collecting and know very little about them, though I have always loved them (my mother had a large jar of marbles, and I loved playing with them and now I have started my own collection).
One thing I have always wondered is: Why are there so few purple marbles? Is it a...
This is the second of these pretties that I've been able to acquire and I think I like this one the best.
I'm going to put this here instead of the ID forum, because I'm 99% sure this is a Vitro Superior. Sold as a Master by a fairly new seller. That yellow patch on top and red ribbon below says Superior to me.
Three new Pelt pee wee's: Wolverine and Christmas Trees. And "back to basics" with some good 'ole Rainbos and a baseball or two; along with my new pee wee's.
Cool story with those - when they arrived I was missing a green one. I took a crack at contacting the seller to see if he would take a...
It's a 1 inch Japanese marble.
the yellow is followed by a dark line and it has some light blue on the surface.
Picked this little beauty up in Canton. A very hard to find type that many would not guess as an Alley Agate
I've started to collect them, and they're pretty awesome. For some reason they seemed to have rolled under the radar among the marble community, or at least people don't talk about them much.
I like to think of them as the modern analogue of the old german handmades. The styles are different, but...
Loving the colors on these two.
Will I ever find a twin?
Just a couple yesterday. First up is what I believe to be a Peltier Submarine. Orange ribbons on a dark blue bubble filled transparent base.
And a Christensen Agate Company American Agate.
A broken leg and weather are conspiring against me. These showed up in the mail yesterday, but It's hard getting to the mailbox with crutches and was picked up by a friend. Now it's snowing hard and there is no telling when I'll have them in hand. Left one has problems, but the right one was IDd as...
