    Re: Marble Alan's Page?

I am getting a page with several pictures of marbles listed vertically, but there is no link to a site?

Now I am seeing the same thing as runnersdad. The pictures towards the bottom of the sparklers are to die for. So sweet.

I did happen to notice that most if not all the pics @marblealan.com are the ones he has listed on the bay.

It was that way this morning before I went to work, figured he was working on his site or something.

I emailed Alan - here's what he said about the site.

Hi Al--my web site is no more---it somehow got wiped out..."corrupt FrontPage extensions," whatever that means. I guess I'll need to rebuild it but in all honesty I've little heart for it right now....

    Re: Marble Alan's Page?

..."corrupt FrontPage extensions," I have never heard of that. I guess this means it will be no more. What a blow to the marble collectors community. I know of a few people that are going to need a defibralator (sp?) to get their heart going. Maybe one of those unscrupulous (sp?) dealers who were making a bundle off of fake mibs were tired of people using marble alan as a reference point and costing them money so they sent him a virus. Hey nowadays nothing would surprise me anymore. That is just my thoughts on this. Odd to say the least. "I've little heart for it right now...." I wonder if it is just too much of a loss for him to recoup and rebuild. I feel bad for him.
    Thanks for the info Al.

    Re: Marble Alan's Page?

    How awful.

Alan, if you ever read these things ... I'm so sorry. I'm a newbie and have never met you personally, but have spent LOTS of time educating myself on your site in recent weeks. It (the site) seemed like a real labor of love -- and what a great resource/gift it's been to the marble collectors community!

I'm sure there are a lot of people (self included) willing to help you rebuild -- send you sample pics, format, type, debug, whatever. Please don't give up. You've got more friends than you know about ... when you're ready, let us know what we can do.

    Thanks again,
    Jessie

    Re: Marble Alan's Page?

Well said Jess, that is absolutely awful. I haven't been around that long either, but Alan's site was more than a blessing for me as I developed my initial identification skills. There are a number of people that would be willing to lend a hand in the rebuilding process.
"Corrupt Frontpage Extensions" to me sounds like some kind of virus hack that someone imploded within Alan's website. By no means do I consider myself a computer expert, but it definiately sounds malicious!
Alan, I think that I can speak for everyone in that, we are truly sorry, and if you need anything we are all here to assist you.

    Re: Marble Alan's Page?

In all honesty, Alan's site really needed updating information wise. Having said that, Alan is also a great guy and asset to the marble collecting comunity. The news is not good to hear.
