    Fantasy Akro Box?

While I'm not 100% positive, I think someone was pretty creative. Its pretty interesting.

I'm in your camp Dave. The bag, and especially the string on the bag show absolutley no sign of aging. Even if kept in perfect conditions, the string should show some general dullness or fading. If you read the "questions for the seller" part, the seller also seems pretty adamant about not showing any detailed pictures other than the ones provided. JMHO.

Fascinating. The person who currently has the high bid is the one who was selling this confetti game set.

I'm guessing that cartoon was from the Boy's Life series which Pete sells copies of?

    Since the auction has ended:

The box does not look right to me. I'd prefer not to say why but there are two qualities about it that make me uneasy. Perhaps better photos by the seller would possibly clear this up.

Doesn't quite look right to me either. One is the dividers are not seperate boxes. Another is the cardboard looks wrong and so does the applied Paper that the printing is on. They also forgot to apply the paper to the bottom of the box which Akro almost always did with sets. I wonder if Rick knows something? Peace,Galen

    Re: Fantasy Akro Box?

Yeah, if its the real deal, it just might be the rarest Akro box and was probably had for a low price. At least there are none in print so neither the Hardy's nor Hansel have one.
Has anyone ever seen one before?
Things pop up all of the time though. There were only two known popeye boxes like the one in the contest when the Six book was written. It seems like salesman's sample cases have come up for sale several times in the last year or two.
That's the great thing about the internet. While I know some folks don't like others to know what they have, and I can certainly understand that, it lets you know that there is more out there than just what exists in print.
I'd certainly love to see and learn more about this one.

    Re: Fantasy Akro Box?

Just talked with Rick about this box. Some avid collectors have been in touch with him, verifying the authenticity of this box, referring to a picture in an Akro brochure, and making offers to buy it. One person who has one contacted Rick and said though there are probably others, this is only the second he has seen.
Since I met Rick and Darlene a few years ago, I have come to appreciate their friendship. Actually, I think of all of us marble collectors as friends and am happy when any of us makes a lucky find.
Rick and Darlene will have this box with them at the New Philly show.

    Re: Fantasy Akro Box?

I am with Burt on this one. I too have come to know Rick through buying marbles from him. He has taught me a lot when it comes to Jabos (Oh will he laugh on that one) and it is apparent to me that he has a lot of marble knowledge and will readily admit when he doesn't have the answers. He told me about the box and how excited that he was to get it due to the fact that there is only one other known box like it. So, it's no small wonder that others question it's authenticity. Those doubts should be erased at New Philly this week.

    Re: Fantasy Akro Box?

Randy, the first listing said the marbles measured 7/8". The second said 5/8.

Thanks for pointing that out to me. i dont know how i missed it. i was second bidder on that box. i just thought it looked fishy when he ended it. relisted it again for 9.99 i guess it still had the 7/8'' on it. stopped it and relisted it with a buy it now, i wonder who tipped him off. thanks
