Just for fun, here are Alox items which used to be mine.

I'm guessing those are marbles in the background on the wrappers. :-)

1st Row shows two blue Alox marbles that a friend of mine received when he interviewed John (Jack) Frier Jr. back in the late 90's. John Frier said that these marbles were manufactured by Alox.

2nd & 3rd row shows a couple (amber & green) of marbles that came out of a Weather-Bird bag that was believed to have been put together in the 80's from an old stash of Alox marbles, mesh bags and headers. My buddy believes that the marbles in the Weather-Bird bags are Alox.

4th row shows two dug Jacksons, they look similar enough to me that they could have been made by the same company or on the same type of machines. On the other hand if you look at them really close they are dissimilar enough that may be they aren't at all related.

This marble id stuff is tough.

That Girl, the shoe strings are super cool!!!

    Thanks, Joe.

    Joe !

You're making it EASIER for ME !!! Have always had a hard time with
this/these types of Swirls. Just the smallest of details with the White
Ribbons/Filaments....width....round or flat.....and the actual "FLOW" of the pattern and the ( this is hard to explain) "AMOUNT" of White Glass that
is actually "USED" to make the marble it's self.

I'll try a different approach on the White Glass. If ALL of the White Glass
was actually condensed into a PATCH....what % of the marble would be
White and what % would be Baseglass.

So.......what started out easy....I just made complicated again. AS ALWAYS

But then again.....these are called SWIRLS......not Clearies ( so simple)

This PIC is being PRINTED and STUCK to the top of My Swirl Box !

    Thanx !!!!

The base glass on the Jackson's (last two shown), is more pronounced, or better defined, more vintage-looking and darker looking. IMHO ~R

    Re: alox101

I think somewhere along the line, it was mentioned that the Coca Cola and Weatherbird Mesh bags came out of Alox (I think marblealan found that out). They also fell into some of the 'filled' bags situations like Champion (with their bags, Nationwide and Milton Bradley). Alox had big sale when they closed and people bought the empty bags, headers and marbles. However, unlike Champion, I don't see a lot of the Coca Cola and Weatherbird mesh bags with a lot of different marbles. If not the original Alox, MK's are the next popular and they are easier to ID. Here's a couple pics.

Mr. Bales, I was wondering if you could show more pix of the patches in your box.

They do have a sort of distinctive look about them. I'm still a little resistent to the idea of Alox making patches, but that's probably only because they're not talked about very much.

There's a pretty patch shown in David Chamberlain's article at Marble Mental.

It would be very nice to see yours from more views. Might help solve some mystery patch i.d.s.

As soon as I get a chance, I'll shoot some close-ups of the patches. I'm going to try to get it done this week. I'll update this thread when I do so all the info can stay together.

Well I was finally able to shoot some pics of the Alox patches from the sample box. Just hope they're good enough to see.

interesting! patch number 4 (black & white) looks similar to the "mushroom" mibs and that last patch could be confused with an MK rainbow a Pelt rainbo. neat flame!
