    Akro.....double or triple twisting snake?

HOW does one count the "twists" on an Akro? This one below is 3/4", amber base with a white snake.....but would you consider this a double or a triple twist? THANX, in advance.

i would consider it a triple, as long as one side of the marble show 3 distinct ribbons.

I agree with triple. I count by looking at the 'top' of the marble, like the right hand pic. You see it (the white) is 'pointing' down. From that 'point', I count the # of lines it crosses and see where that imaginary straight line from top to bottom ends. This one might be 3.5 twists (I don't get any more detailed than 2, 2 1/2, 3, 3 1/2, 4, etc.

Finally got some backlit pictures of it that really show off the twists well......and you're right Duffy, it's a GREAT marble in hand. Unfortunately, there IS one flaw in the marble which you can kind of see in the last pic. It's a INTERNAL fracture, right in the middle of the cork end. NOTHING on the surface, and it kinda looks like a snowflake........but still not "perfect"!!

Fractures in these snakes are not unusual. Be careful not to temperature shock this marble.

Akros name for this marble was spiral I believe. It looks like the ribbon makes the center (or close) of the marble so the collecters term is auger is it not. What makes an Akro a snake?? I have heard many definitions what are the opinions here. Personally I have never used the term snake. I always heard the snakes had all the ribbon on the surface but that doesn't seem to be the case at all. Peace,Galen

Actually, the center of this marble is untouched by the ribbon, although it DOES make a nice "hole" down the middle of the marble. I thought an Auger actually spiraled through the middle of marble and didn't touch the outer edges, kind of like a solid core handmade. I'll list it as a Spiral unless someone clarifies the terms and sets me straight!!

Steph has brought it to my attention that this marble is acually an Onyx and not a spiral and she is absolutely correct. Sorry for the mis information. And its OK to tell me when I screw up on the board in the post(LOL) Peace,Galen

To me Snakes (collector's name) is where the white is only on the surface.

Re: Akro.....double or triple twisting snake?

I cheated on the description to get all the "keywords" in for the auction. I called it a 3-spiral onyx snake corkscrew........but then I took out "snake" since the corkscrew is not just on the surface. Thanx for looking again everyone........it's out on the 'bay if interested.

    Long story Al.

My original ID from 2 years ago was abused by a roommate/EX-friend, and was suspended at that time. you can see in my feedback the issues I had with my roommate using my ID while I was away for several months......came back home to a suspended account, a rental 3 months behind and an eviction notice, and a LOT of other ****. It's taken awhile, but I'm digging out slowly but surely.

I FINALLY got forced to get things straightened out when Pdallys (my friends) forced the issue by incorporating, so they can't sell my items anymore or they have to claim that income as well. SOOOOO, I'm back under JunkNStuff4U........ Hope this link works:
