Most you have ever shelled out for a single marble?
What is the most you have ever shelled out for a single marble?
What kind was it? Pics would be nice.
Do you regret it?
If so, what was the lesson learned?
I have yet to buy an expensive marble. I don't think I would pay more than 20 dollars for a single one, but who knows. My funds are also limited right now but when I somehow come across millions of dollars, I might splurge and buy 21 dollar marbles..

Most I can remember paying was for my Drew Fritts marble.
Paid 100.00 for it last year..Recently sold it on eBay for 128.00
The only regret I had was selling it. It is the best marble I have ever owned, but with the economy, it had to go...

Re: Most you have ever shelled out for a single marble?
The most I have ever paid for single Marble was $820.00 about 15 years ago at auction. It is a 1 7/8 " end of day cloud single pontil end of cane with a left hand twist in near mint condition. (sorry I can't post pictures.) It was originally purchased in 1893 in a hardware store in Dayton Ohio by a family by the name of Jacobsen. In 1896 the family moved to McCool Jct, Nebraska. It was handed down through the family and finally sold at action in York Nebraska where my son and I bought it. We have a signed and notarized statement of the history of the marble from the family. Maybe soon I can get my son to post a picture of the marble for me. ----Leroy----

I like to collect marbles by finding them in the wild and therefore paying relatively little for them. I think the most I've paid for a single marble is $40 for my single seam peach slag at a flea market. For me, finding marbles is about the hunt and the bargain. I love finding marbles in the wild.

Most I ever paid was $1700 for a blue/yellow/black/oxblood mint, 3/4" popeye.
It is still in my collection.
I would hate to have to list all of the marbles I have paid in excess of $50, or even $100 for. WAY too many to count and i am one of the cheaper buyers as far as vintage collectors go.
Most I ever paid for a box makes that one look like chump change. hahaha

I have no idea what to even say to those types of numbers. I think I'll stick to cheap modern marbles before I go splurging on something like that!
I'm envious though!!

Re: Most you have ever shelled out for a single marble?
I bid on an auction to get a final amount. I bid what I thought was low
enough to loose. $635.00. I won, it was an Amber Cobra Guniea/
My regret, I had to sell it. Along with several other mibs.
Just to pay bills.
I got more than I paid for it though $1025.00 - 15%.
Now the money is gone & the marble is just a memory.

about 6 or 7 years ago I sold 10 bales of hay and a good Border Collie so I could purchase a killer MFC Persion Turquoise from Marble Alan...

$70 for a 3/4" JABO Joker mib, which absolutely mesmerized me. Tons of colors, sparkles, clear, opaque, just awesome. Only bidding war I ever engaged on via ebay. I felt I had to have it! That was a huge purchase for me, but I finally stopped feeling guilty about it, and it's still my favorite mib.
Other than that, only as much as about $20 (less than a handful of times) for large contemp handmades, but usually $8 or less. usually under a buck a mib, really. Mortgage, student loans, 2 young kids, saving for college, etc.
Fortunately, to my way of thought, there are an awful lot of pretty mibs out there which can be had for pennies instead of dollars. And a lot of fine boards like here, where we can at least SEE the pricier stuff!

I guess when you have a passion about collecting something, there's no stopping you!
I don't think I could ever trade a pet, but as long as the pup is in a good home..!
