I found this shooter under my slave cabin?

Hi I was working outside and this drew my eye under the cabin in a area where the runoff kinda goes the cabin was built in 1840 as are the other structures on the property so I have no clue how old it is just hoping y'all could tell me what i have thanks (FYI i know nothing about marbles)

It appears to be an Akro Agate, perhaps an "Ade" with UV reactive base-glass. Probably post 1920.

what is an ade? and uv reactive glass?

"Ade" is just a type of marble made by Akro Agate Co. The UV reflective term means that marble companies sometimes used glass that would "glow" under a blacklight (sometimes uranium mixed in the glass formulae).

I'd estimate 1930 to 1940.

They might have spilled over into the 1940's, but they couldn't have spilled far.




To the best of my knowledge, Akro introduced that general style of marble in late 1930 or in 1931.

It lasted at least into the mid-1930's.

Did it last a full 10 years? I don't know.

But it couldn't have gone further than the early 1940's because the U.S. government confiscated uranium for the war effort and uranium wasn't available again for glass-making until after Akro closed.

considering that it was made in the 1840s as a slave cabin and we found documents listing that 8 slaves lived there

that would make my reference to it as my (since I now own the property ) slave cabin (because that is what it is ) correct

i never knew they used uranium in the making of glass kinda cool whats a shooter like that worth $1-5?

You could easily have asked your marble question by just refering to it as your "cabin". The past use of your property has no bearing on marbles. You should realize that some people may interpret this sort of gratuitous reference as approval of, and pride in the heritage of slavery. ... Roger

I would argue that by omitting that minimizes the tremendous suffering that some peoples faced in the past

but I see your point and i will take you advice.
