What to do with damaged marbles?

In general, if machine-made marbles have lots of hit marks on them, are any of them worth keeping? I realize it's hard to generalize about this, but I'd appreciate your opinions. Thanks.

I save em up with common types and throw them out in the Kiddie park. Do it late Friday night and watch the action Saturday morning. Its fun.

I keep my old damaged marbles.
Although they've hardly or not any monetary value,i can't throw them away.
I like the old damaged ones more than new undamaged marbles, they're survivors, ugly to look at,for that reason i keepem in a jar, behind the glass they still look nice.

If the marbles are too damaged, I toss them out to the trash. If they have NO sharp places that might cut a child's hand, I put them in a plastic bag marked, "Give away" and about November my wife takes them to her school where a special needs middle school class bags them and then I take them to the local fire department to donate to Toys-For-Tots.

Leroy must have some kind of problem posting here - he's not banned. Here is what he said about damaged marbles:
    ------
I for one hate to see damaged marbles just thrown away without making sure that they can't be reconditioned and believe me I'm not saying this because I recondition marbles. It's just that several years ago a friend had a 5 gallon bucket about half full of hurt marbles and he told me they were headed to the landfill. I asked him to allow me to take them home with me and recondition those on halves that were rare and valuable. Long story short over 200 marbles were saved and some of them are still on display at The Lee's Marble Muesum in York, Nebraska. Others were sold and between us we sold over a thousand dollars worth and I still have some in my collection.
What I'm saying is that before you throw a hurt marble away have some good polisher (reconditioner) evaluate them. It's amazing what can be reconditined. Some peole don't like polished (reconditioned) marbles and that is their choice and they aren't for everybody. This is my opinion and mine alone. ----Leroy----

Cool Re: What to do with damaged marbles?

Thanks for everyone's replies! For the badly damaged ones with sharp edges, they're headed for the dumpster. The others I think I'll put into a "give-away-to-children" box or otherwise display. None of these is worth anything as a repolish or refurb - they're all machine made and pretty common. Thanks for your replies again - Barbara

Re: What to do with damaged marbles?

I put damaged vintage mibs in a small flat-rate mailer, and when it is full I sell it as vintage, non-mint marbles for combing through, and they sell immediately. Many times I have gone through them and salvaged mibs that I had previously thought were not worth saving. I often wonder about the marbles we collectors decide are of no value and discard - Maybe one day when mint marbles are less easily found, our "rejects" will not be though of as being so lowly!

I usually only buy collectible groups of marbles for resale if they are purported to be primarily mint, but I usually will resell mint-only, so anything non-mint goes in the box. Those boxes really are treasure-troves for those that can live with the condition. They aren't just random old marbles - as often as not they are a collectible variety, just not mint. I routinely throw Pelts, MK's Akros, etc. in the "reject" box - they just aren't perfect.
