    Mfc?

I'm working on a way of photo resizing, less background, more mib. So I thought I'd start with this one. Nosing around on Marble Alan's site and found that this doesn't belong on my cork pile but might be a MFC Horizontal slag. Not exactly "killer" but kind'a uncommon.

I think it's a Japanese Transitional. Does it have a pinch pontil on one end. Kind of looks like it in second picture.

Seems like a pinch pontil to me.

Now sure when they were made. Pre-WWII I believe. I've got a few in various colors.

Jerry; Looks like mine is a Japanese one too. Was Marble Alan's MFC identification wrong? Is there a horizontal slag? The brief description on Alan's site is the only place I have ever heard of one. Thanks

I'll have to take a look at Alan's site, but you need to realize that Alan died in 2012 and the site you're looking was reconstructed after his death and hasn't been updated. It's mostly up as a memorial to Alan. There's lots of good info there, but things change.

I know Alan is no longer with us- many thanks to whoever restored it. It is a valuable tool. Better than any of my books.
The place on the site is a short paragraph at the bottom of his MFC slag description. There is no corresponding photo. I can see where someone might think they were MFC. Thanks

    Re: Mfc?

A few people will occasionally use the term Horizontal for a handgathered machine rounded slag with a pattern that swirls around the marble several times (usually on Ebay to make a sale), Personally I believe the term should be saved for the Melted Pontil Types from Leightons patent made in Ohio. wow that's some marble, I'd love to see another view.
So, you don't think MFC made a similar mib? Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to turn my op marble into something it's not, I'm just trying to get a handle on definitions and different manufacturers. also, is anything known about the Japanese co. that made mine and Jerry's.
    Thanks
