    New Guy Wanting To Learn

This is all brand new to me. I actually just stumbled upon these and thought they were cool looking so picked them up. What do I have here? I've been searching online how to identify but not exactly sure. Any information would be much appreciated. Thanks, Sam

Most look vintage (40's-50's), though I am seeing a few that could be newer Vacor de Mexico. ID is hard with these big groups of marbles.

There seem like so many different designs. I’ve seen a few people respond about Popeyes is that just a design type? Also when someone says Agate is that any marble made by the Akron Agate company?

It is hard being a beginner collecting marbles. So many companies and so many styles. Some are easy to ID. Like Peltier Raibos. A couple ribbons surrounding the marble.

Some not so easy to ID, like the West Virginia swirls. Multiple makers, sometimes actually sharing marble making equipment. Still a problem for me, though I can ID a few makers.

    Popeyes are a thing.

And sometimes Agates are actual stone agates.

That is a nice mixed lot of marbles that must have been put together by a marble collector in the past. There is a 3/4" marble (bigger than most of the others) to the left middle that has a pinkish/white base with red and yellow swirls that is a Champion New Old Fashioned. That is a relatively new marble, but a good one. Your lot is very mixed so the lot itself can't clearly teach you who made what. What the lot will do is after you have been learning for awhile, you will be able to figure out a bunch of who made whats. In my opinion, looking at correctly attributed marbles by a single maker at a time teaches one the fastest. That being said, enjoy the mysteries that your lot holds

Hi and welcome! Very nice group of marbles. Folks on this forum are very knowledgeable and will be more than glad to help you with ID. If you haven't discovered this yet, here is a link to a site I used often when I started collecting (and still refer to). Some of the info has since been updated but it is a great compilation for reference.

Thank you for the help everyone. Iím hooked, went to the library and got some marble books to try to learn. That website is awesome and very informative. Grabbed another smaller lot from the same local lady today. She tells me her mother in law who is 85 collected these which sounds accurate based on the replyís.
