Galen - I don't think bubbles looks more like specks of debris

Rick - Very strong back light I can see through it on one side, very dense on the other. I can't take a back lit pic to save myself so.............

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but only to clear the minds of the confused, the term "Claudia" came from fellow collectors Roger and Claudia Hardy who were supposedly involved in those large orange and blue Akro finds at the digs......Now the name has been used by several collectors to represent any of the same colored corks or patches....

A further theory was that Arnold Fielder, who was employed by the Akro Agate Company before being recruited to become the glass-master at The Christensen Agate Company in 1925, was perhaps the glass chemist who perfected the eye appealing contrast between the blue and orange on those "experimental Patch" finds.

As I know Roger and Claudia Hardy and have purchased a number of these from them - I have never heard either of them refer to them with Claudia's name. Roger has always been a careful and consistent user of clear naming syntax - both in their book and in conversations, and in neither have taken any poetic license as far as I have observed.

Now that I think about it - it was long after Roger exhausted his supply of them that I started hearing some people use this term (and relatively recently). I will see them in a few months and ask.

Like most marble names - I suspect the "Claudia" moniker was invented by a seller who wanted to put some spin on the merchandise. In my opinion - this recent naming attempt is unhelpful to collectors, as the original description was clear and descriptive.

Re: I am 99% sure

If that were mine I would put it right next to my "cullet marbles I've made" pile

Re: I am 99% sure

hey girl! after seeing it in hand.......... it is not a cullet . But.. ya know that box of 'box lot' your kids were having fun with? looked in there this morning... saw one almost exactly like yours only a larger size! heehee don't know how anyone missed it! mine is a bit more red. Now I looked at it very closely, and being a bit bigger helped out a lot! i am seeing one of the flintie type 'windows', and what looks like an akro seam line at the poles, and then these odd circles on either side. Here's my conclusion... the circles remind me of the patterning you see on many akros (and other marbles) where water was sprayed on the hot rollers to cool them down, and slightly discolored the hot glass when it hit that hot wet roller. hence the odd bullseye on either side of the marble, forming as the marble rolled.
